    • The Texas Curriculum Management Program Cooperative, or TCMPC, is a share service agreement between the 20 Education Service Centers (ESCs) in Texas. This shared service agreement, or SSA, allows participating ESCs to share responsibility for the management and operations of the online curriculum management system known as the TEKS Resource System.
      • The State of Texas contains over 1,100 independent school districts as well as numerous charter and private schools. Recognizing the challenges of supporting such a large number of districts and schools, in 1967 the Texas Legislature established 20 regional Education Service Centers (ESCs) to act as hubs for training and support.

        Over the years, ESCs have come to serve a variety of functions to improve district operations such as providing training for school personnel, hosting technological infrastructure, housing district archives, developing content resources, producing support materials for special services like Braille texts, and serving as a liaison between the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and districts for the purpose of implementing state policies.

        The 20 ESCs frequently cooperate in programs and efforts to support various statewide initiatives. One collaborative effort among ESCs developed in response to requests from districts across the state for a curriculum and assessment system that organizes the state-adopted standards known as the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The Texas Curriculum Management Program Cooperative (TCMPC), formed to oversee a curriculum and assessment program known as the TEKS Resource System.

        Along with providing curriculum and assessment, the TEKS Resource System helps to alleviate the costly, resource-intensive development work needed by each district, school, and teacher required to provide instruction on Texas education standards. Hundreds of partner districts are able to shift limited resources away from developing a curriculum that needs constant maintenance and instead move to a focus on how to apply the curriculum, deploy instruction, and improve student success. Teachers no longer need to spend their limited time on planning what to teach and when to teach it. Instead, teachers are free to concentrate on improving their own craft by focusing on “how” to teach the content while district resources can be used to help support classroom instruction directly.

    • The chief purpose of the TEKS Resource System is to provide teachers curriculum and assessment resources that align to the state standards. Additionally, the TEKS Resource System provides a central technology hub that allows for districts and schools to customize and house their own innovative resources. Curriculum, assessment, and technology experts, ESC content specialists, district leaders, and Texas teachers work to provide and maintain up-to-date, TEKS aligned resources that reflect ever-evolving state priorities. The practice of continuous improvement reflects the nature of the TEKS Resource System in developing components and resources reflecting ongoing scholarship and best practices. The TEKS Resource System actively engages the leaders and literature of the education field to provide classroom teachers a research-based curriculum and assessment foundation in order for students to have the greatest opportunity for success.

      The TEKS Resource System is a viable, comprehensive online curriculum and assessment management system designed for use by districts and teachers and is comprised of:
      • a research-based collection of curriculum and assessment components directly aligned to the state education standards;
      • a responsive program designed to address end-user feedback quickly, to integrate ongoing improvements developed by the content team, and to respond to policy changes of the Texas Education Agency;
      • a framework and sequence designed to support instructional planning regardless of instructional setting;
      • a high-quality and coherent organization of knowledge that builds student understanding over time and across grade levels.

      The current TEKS Resource System is designed to address the following content areas and grade levels:
      • English Language Arts and Reading, K-12;
      • Spanish Language Arts and Reading, K-6;
      • Mathematics, K-12;
      • Science, K-12;
      • Social Studies, K-12;
      • Spanish translated versions of Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies K-5.

      • Each content area’s Vertical Alignment Document (VAD) presents an alignment of standards across the K-12 grade levels in order to provide clear guidance to teachers regarding the content to be addressed in specific courses and at specific grade levels. The vertical alignment represents the major competencies, ideas, and skills that a student is expected to revisit over the years with growing levels of competency, proficiency, and depth of understanding resulting in a demonstration of a student’s progression of understandings over time.
      • The Year at a Glance (YAG) for a yearlong course is a resource that provides a brief overview of the organization of the TEKS. The YAG organizes the TEKS into major units and demonstrates the sequence of units across a yearlong scope with a suggested pacing. The YAG demonstrates that the curriculum of the TEKS Resource System is designed to allow for opportunities to learn all the state requires and does so within a manageable timeframe.
      • The Assessment Suite includes a variety of assessments intended to determine student progress and mastery of state standards, including:
        • The Performance Assessments (PAs) provide students the opportunity to demonstrate understanding through a novel application of content and skills in a real-world setting.
        • A collection of individual assessment items teachers may use to create tests that assess student mastery of state standards.
        • A collection of individual assessment items that teachers may use in a variety of ways to monitor student progress toward understanding, prior to and during instruction.
